Duane’s Trunks – Viewer Project

I hope you folks remember my good buddy Duane from the Steamer Trunk Series. Many of you have been asking for an update on “Big D” so I am excited to post these pictures. Duane is doing very well and he’s apparently been busy cranking out steamer trunks like a mad man! And I don’t know about you guys but I think I need to pinch someone’s cheeks. Not Duane’s…..the cute little girl’s.

duanes_trunks1Here are some of the pictures I had promised. The one with rustic walnut and cherry is the one I built for the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer that will be auctioned off in February 2010 and the other two are the ones I built for the kids. I fell in love with the walnut and maple one and I plan on building one similar for myself. Please tell the story as it may give others inspiration that have cancer or a family member with it.

Great work Duane! I think the rustic walnut and cherry will bring in a lot of money at the auction. Love the walnut and maple. Good craftsmanship. I like the hardware.

Sweet work Duane! I love cherry and walnut together. I am really glad Marc went with the flat top. It is much nicer, sweet work!

Glad for the update. I have been thinking about you lately. I really love the color contrast on the walnut and maple one. They are all lovely though. That little girl sure looks like her Daddy.

    Duane,

I thought the shirt on the little girl was cute but then I looked at her; she is adorable. I have 2 of the same make; different models though (2000 and a 2001 model).

Now, on to the Maple…..wow! I stared and literally drooled at that chest for a few minutes, trying to picture myself making one of those some day. I have VERY limited tools but a desire to build like no other.

It’s not just the chest that is moving. My Dad died of prostate cancer in 2005. Although it was a sad time, it afforded me a chance to get to know some of the kids on the floor and make them laugh and generally lift their spirits. I’m the family comedian so it kinda came easily. Anyway, I know what I did was a great thing for their immediate situation but what you are doing is a great thing for their immediate and long time situation. You should be commended for that fact.

I applaud you and your work. Very well done Sir.

    Taylor

    ps,
Marc, nice job for putting this on your site. Ya never know, this may spawn into something. Good stuff man.

Very nice job on your projects and awesome with the donation as well. You have been an inspiration throughout your battle. What was your favorite part of the build? Your little girl looks like trouble just like mine, how do you say no to a face like that!!

I also think the walnut trunks came out especially nice. Those would fetch a nice price at any auction.

Duane, I can see why you fell in love with the Walnut and Maple trunk. It’s very nice! I still need to build one. I’ve got the hardware, just got to schedule it in. Maybe, your post will be the kick in the butt I need!
