Dr. Hacker’s Walnut Coffee Table

A walnut coffee table with inlay, line and berry, a french polished top. Constructed with 3 hand cut dovetail drawers of figured maple and a rosewood species. Hand decorated drawer and skirt adornments and solid brass pulls. Tabletop measures 37.5 inches long by 22 inches wide 19.5 inches off the ground. It has beautifully tapered legs with exotic wood inlay. The front skirt and side skirts have complex inlay adornments.

Table top design is inspired from 16th century Italian chest on display in Florence Italy. The table is a beautiful mix of refinement, detail and handmade craftsmanship; truly a one of a kind piece.

I am a 2nd year woodworker who has been a product of The Wood Whisperer and Fine Woodworking self study. This is my favorite project to date. I am a vascular surgeon by day but love to relax with the power tools at night.

That’s clearly a lovely job you’ve done there. Very nice. I’d like to ask if there are any shrinkage problems that could arise with inlay in the top of a table like that over time? Or is that negligible? Any opinions any one? Congrats

  Ill tell you about problems if they happen. I don’t have enough experience really to speak to it. We will see what happens to the inlay over the years.

This beautiful table is one of those with drawers that should be left slightly open to show the fine craftsmanship.

I hope I never have to have any vascular surgery done, but if I do, I’d hope that the doc is as much of a craftsman as Dr. Hacker!

This is simply beautiful. I am astounded at the attention to detail you put in on this project.
The dovetails are very nicely done. And so the inlays.
I like the way the dovetails alternate from the one drawer to the other.
What type of rosewood did you used?
I hope we will see more of your projects in the future.

All I can say is wow! Less than 2 years under your belt and turning stuff like this out! Imagine what you will be doing in a couple more. Inlay still scares me after 20 years! You should be proud!

I really like your your work very much.I think your design is perfect one for who really enjoying share coffee with his/her family,friend or other else.I have also gone through your shop it’s an amizing one.I think your a great woodworker and your design s are realy realy nice.Basically work on the wood and give a perfect design acording to the customers choice is too top,and you do it very well.
And thanx to you to show your different designs of woods.
