My shop is 21 x 27 with a stairwell out of it to a one bedroom apartment above which I have converted to my office. I started turning the garage into a woodshop about a year and a half ago. When I started, it had one plug-in and two light bulbs. I have replaced both doors with insulated doors, replaced the old fuse box with a breaker box and wired it both for 110 and 220. I added a Jet 1 ½ hp dust collector and ran pipe to most of my machines. I have a utility sink that I need to plumb in so I don’t have to run upstairs all the time. The furnace and AC for my office is in the garage so it never gets too hot or too cold and when I need it, I have a vent that I can open in the garage. I am still working on tool and wood storage and some shop furniture. I have a bathroom and kitchen upstairs in my office and I am thinking about making the bedroom a finishing room for things small enough to get up there.
My tools include a Delta Unisaw, Delta drill press, Delta band saw with a Kreg fence, a Powermatic hollow chisel mortiser, a Powermatic 15? planer, a Delta DJ20 8? jointer, a Jet slow speed wet sharpener, a Dewalt compound miter saw, an 8? bench grinder with a wolverine jig, an Earlex 5000 series HVLP spray station. We are getting there but we still have a long way to go.

Very nice workshop! A lot to be said about a shop that you can keep at a comfortable temperature year round.
The heat and air is a blessing. It has been very cold here lately and the shop has been almost every day for the last couple of weeks and we plan to use it heavily through the end of the year.
Great shop. Looks like things really came together for you. You should check out craigslist randomly for clamps. I have bought all my kbody clamps for very cheap.
I have tried for clamps craigslist but have not had any luck in my area. But I did get my jointer and planner on there.
Light is such a crucial part of a workshop. Best way to improve your work is to actually see what you are doing.
I couldn’t agree more. I currently have five 8 foot fluorescents and I have 3 more to put up.
I a bit confused by you saying the clamps are expensive when you have the huge jointer, planer, and table saw… :-/
Anyway, the shop is totally excellent and I’m way jealous.
Ok you got me there but I it’s not as fun buying clamps. Look dear I just bought another clamp just like the other two hanging up there. Don’t get me wrong they are fun to have when you need them just not fun to buy.
NIce woodshop you got there! You definitely put a lot of time and work into it. And nice tools you have!
Looks like you have everything covered to have a great workshop. Great looking shop.
You talked about havng a dust collection system, but I did not see it. Do you keep it somewhere else or was it just hidden?
Its under the stairs and there is so much stuff stacked back there I was embarrassed to show it. It’s a JET DC-1100 1.5 horsepower.
Nice shop, working on one myself. Always looking for ideas. Thanks for sharing
Great shop! I was thinking of putting my router in table in my TS extension wing, but the way my shop is set up I wouldn’t be able to approach it from the front, only from the side (ie, standing at one end of the fence, not across from the fence.) It looks like you have your router table set up like that. Do you find that it’s a problem?
There are definitely some pros and cons. Here are some from my experience so far.
Pros
You can use the out feed from you table saw for the router too.
The lever to adjust the fence is right at my right hand just like when using the table saw.
Cons
You have to lift the fence over the router bit every time you switch.
You have to lean over a lot farther to change bits
I don’t think you can see as well.
You are reaching over the bit more at the end of cuts
If I could choose I wood be to stand at the side and run the other way but I have a support post in the way.
Great Shop!….. I would recommend you think about a delta, jet or Powermatic air filtration. While I was working with cedar making tongue and groove flooring, I got a nasty sinus infection from the dust. Turns out, dust was a bigger health problem than I knew.. My neighbor used Styrofoam from home depot and lined his garage door… Made a huge difference inside with heat and cooling.
All kinds of clamps will come in handy!! Get-R-Done!
Thanks. Air filtration is definitely on our list but it sounds like we may need to move it up a little.
Tools, tools, tools, I know what you mean when it comes to clamps. If I come home with a biscuit joiner for 150.00 I would get a look but it wouldn’t be too bad. If I spent that same money and came home with two long but good clamps she would probably have a bird. In some cases the bigger ticket items are an easier sell.
Nice Shop – Takes time to acquire all the good tools, looks like you have some nice quality tools. Enjoy the hobby.
Hi. Nice mini-review of the marking gauge. You never mentioned the brand or where you bought it. I thought it might be by Veritas, but no.
Hi Jeff, nice shop. Grizzly’s website carries a shopfox set of 30 clamps for about 250, Or jorgensen set for 350 ish.
I agree the jet clamps with the quick release is nice, they just need bigger sets.
Marty Backe,
Sorry I just notied your question. The marking gauge is a Tite-Mark from Glen-Drake Toolworks. http://play-glen-drake.com/v-w.....baf288d53b
