Lance’s Garage Workshop

My shop is in a 3 car garage attached to my house. My wife parks in the garage when I’m not working on a project. Everything is on casters so I can easily move my equipment around.

This woodworking season I plan to build an assembly table, miter station and more shop storage.

Comments

  1. Nice workshop Lance. Hats off to anyone who can manage to keep their workshop neat and tidy. I’m absolutely useless. A guy gave me a great tip once: ” you should be able to put your hand on any item in your workshop within 30 seconds”. Sounds great in theory but I have great trouble putting it into practice!!

    Looks good, Lance!

  3. Sean Rubino, No I don’t, but I can say it’s a great starter jointer for a garage workshop, it saves space, and well made for the money. I wouldn’t buy it brand new, but if you able to get it on CL for a good price I highly recommend the jointer, I got mine for $175, barely used on CL.

Brian, I agree, she does a good job not parking in the garage when I’m working on a big project, only due to the fact that she can’t, b/c of the tools everyone and there’s no room for her too! ;) But I would love to have everything stationary with dust collection running to each too. When we move I’m plan on building a 3 car garage with a 4th car spot being tandem behind the third, like I have now – great for a hand tool area. That should give me about 600-750 Sq. Ft. and she’d be able to park still. Kinda like Marc did with his old shop and his parents/in-laws – couldn’t remember who was living there.

Nice workshop. I think my favorite piece is that Laguna bandsaw. The first project you should have is to get your wife to not park in the garage anymore :) I try and get a little more space but it’s impossible to get her not to park in it. It was part of our deal when we built the garage… oh well.

Dig the shop. I think it represents the norm for most of us who work out of a garage. Although my garage isn’t as big as yours i was able to convince my girlfriend to park outside. I was able to save some money on casters that way. You have some very nice tools, I love your router table. Congrats on an excellent work space.

You have a nice workshop and keep it very clean. I don’t see antifatigue mats!
I saw a few of your Youtube video and liked them. Will look again for new stuff. I loved the Laguna band saw, I will change my General next year for sure.

  7. Sean Rubino September 20, 2012

Thats a pretty nice shop you share with your wife. Do you happen to have a review of that Ridgid jointer on your YouTube channel? That is a super deal on the Jet drum sander by the way.

  8. Mike_M September 20, 2012

Nice shop Lance. Well kept and organized. On another note, while researching the Laguna 14″ band saw, I ran across your review on YouTube. I found it very informative and helpful and altimetry I went with the same model. I couldn’t be any happier with my choice. Thanks for sharing your views just to help others.

Well done and keep up the good work.

  9. My shop space is very similar and like you I need everything to be mobile. My bench is nearly identical to yours and I found a simple way to make it mobile with retractable casters.

    Thanks for sharing your shop!

I like your workshop. It’s well equipped, well organized and it doesn’t looked cramped. I don’t see anything you couldn’t do in there except for maybe turning. Interesting extension on your lumber rack.

I literally just bought my Drum Sander 3 weeks ago on CL. I ‘ve ran maybe 10 pieces through it, that being said I have not ran a board wider than 16″. However went I did, the result were awsome, great for small, thin stock. The main reason I went with the 16-32 was price! $700 Brand New, still in box.

My YouTube channel is LanceHolly32511, hope everyone enjoys!

      You have some great tools

  12. TennesseeYankee September 20, 2012

    Good Bless Texas!

Do you like your drum sander. I can’t tell if it is the 16/32, but do you get good results when you have to sand something wider than a single pass?

  13. Stephen Spence September 20, 2012

Very nice clean shop. I’m jealous. Whats your youtube channel?

  14. Joel September 20, 2012

    Great Shop.

  15. Patrick Schupbach September 20, 2012

Nice set up!!! You seem to be organized…. VERY IMPORTANT!!!!

  16. Kody September 19, 2012

What’s his channel name on YouTube?

  17. Thanks Marc for putting up my Shop, I wish I would have done a complete description of my tools and experience but I was at work when I saw your Facebook post, asking for shop request, so I had limited time since I was on the clock at work, hehe ;) I’m getting excited for you to move into your shop, and can’t wait for the videos to come!!!! I look once a day for a new video.

Matt, thanks for watching my YouTube channel, glade to see your enjoying them, all my friends make fun of my videos. I’m in the process of building and editing a “No Comment – Flip Cart (Over Built Edition)” video. It should be done sometime in the next couple weeks, keep an eye out for it!!!

Lance. Sounds dumb but you taught me to hit up Craig’s list for tools here in st Louis , I have scored some great deals on a powermatic 15 in planer and 6 inch jointer both for 500. I too work out of my garage. I think I will try to shoot a video, Thanks to you and Marcs videos I am back into woodworking. Have a great one!!!!

      • Matt, I’d love to see your shop, are you subscribed to my YouTube channel? What’s your name?

CL’s has given me the opportunity to get my shop to where its at in less than a year and half. I’ve almost gotten to the point where I’ve ran out of stuff to look for, after finding my drum sander a month ago, I rarely get on CL anymore, for the simple reason that festool tools are rarely on there, I’ve never seen one in the 2 years of looking for tools.
