Wood Whisperer iPhone App

We are proud to announce our latest project, the Wood Whisperer iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch application. It is available for download right now! To put it simply, its a very handy companion application for the Wood Whisperer website, with some great bonus features.

Application features include:
* Access to the latest episodes and an archived back catalog
* Stream episodes from anywhere and resume playback (when interrupted by a call or other distractions)
* Share episodes or articles with friends using Twitter, Facebook or Email
* Stay connected to The Wood Whisperer with the integrated Twitter feed and know when there is a live recording
* Stay up-to-date on News & Events
* Listen to Wood Talk Online Radio podcast

And before anyone even asks, we do not have an Android version available as of yet. When we do, we will announce it. Nicole has taken it upon herself to develop this stuff in her limited spare time. We decided doing this in house was the only way to keep the app free. So bear with us as we tackle the low-hanging fruit first, then move on to other platforms.

  3. Bryan Huot October 26, 2010

definitely a great addition to the WW arsenal….great work Nicole!

  4. Thank you, Marc. Rather than complain that you don’t have an Android app, let me be the first to congratulate Nicole for taking it on as a task. Charge for it, and I’ll pay (even if I’ve moved to windows phone 7 by then).

  5. Schmoll October 26, 2010

Arrgh, I was looking forward to this since you updated the site (hard to navigate now on my iPod) . I have 2.2.1 guess you need 3.0.

Ok that is Iphone 2, blackberry 0…..Should I remind everyone that the blackberry is the best selling smart phone?????? So where are my Apps???

  9. Marc. Congratulations and you did an amazing thing in these last four years. I can’t thank you enough for your patience and not kicking me out of the WTO Forum.

  10. Ben October 26, 2010

Blackberry=business. Your only app is email. >:D

I totally applaud Nicole for taking on development of the Android version. Android rules!

Quick question; does this iPhone app require that you hold the phone in a specific way for it to work, or else use a bumper? Hehehehe, couldn’t resist…

Hi Mark, I don’t know whether Nicole is interested but I am an app developer by day. I would love to help any way I can. I do mostly .net development but have been playing with Android’s Java for the past couple of months.

I’m sure there are a multitude of app dev resources you could call upon from the WW community. If Nicole is doing this for free perhaps she’d be interested in throwing the code up on a repository and allowing us to help develop for you. Or perhaps even setting it up as an open source project?

Thank you both for all of your hard work.

Nicole is awesome!! Now we know who the real brains behind the work is, so she has the brains and the beauty. Mark what do you have again? :)

    Marc / Nicole:

Great application – Nice to get my TWW fix while on the go.

    Two UI observations:

    1) In the “More” section, all the subsections except ‘FAQ’ have an ‘exit’ button labelled ‘More’ in the upper left corner. FAQ, on the other hand, can only be exited via the ‘More’ button on the lower right.

    2) The TWW Store pop-up ad at the bottom os most sections are handy, but once the pop-ups are clicked and the store is entered, things get a bit wonky, particularly moving from portrait to landscape mode. On my iPos Touch, rotating to landscape mode results in the iOS title bar rotating as expected, while the underlying TWW Store content remaining in portrait mode. Need a bit of work there.

Thanks for the swell app Marc. Now it will be even easier to be distracted in the shop. Seriously, looks great.

I have watched/listened to/read just about everything on thewoodwhisperer.com and have to say how much I like your iPhone app. Even limited to the 20 most recent videos etc. there will always be a wealth of info available to me when I cannot get to my computer.

Nicole & Mark, Thanks for the great app.

Don’t bother with an Android app, I have heard that they plan to discontinue the Android when the iPhone is available on other US carriers. ; )

  20. Just downloaded the app! Looks like i have a new distraction…

  21. Tom November 5, 2010

Really happy to see the app. Busy schedule and blocked internet at work have made visiting your site a little more difficult. This app made my day. One question, I do not seem to be able to view or add comments on the app. Is this correct or am I showing my technological incompetence.
    Thanks again

Hey Tom. The app is basically fed by an RSS feed, so the commenting aspect isn’t really a part of it. Kinda lame but that’s how it goes. You can alway use the mobile version of the site in Safari and you’ll be able to leave comments there. I know its not the same as the app but it works rather well.

    Put Anouther mark for Android.
