Wood Talk Goes Weekly!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, Wood Talk is our long-running audio podcast about woodworking. Started in 2007 by myself and my buddy Matt Vanderlist of MattsBasementWorkshop.com, the show has always been just a couple of wood nerds talking about our shops, the community, and the craft. We later brought in our pal Shannon Rogers from RenaissanceWoodworker.com to create a well-rounded (not a fat joke) trio and we quickly settled into a predictably unpredictable schedule.

You see, since show #1, Wood Talk has always suffered from “side project” status. But last Spring we decided to try a little experiment. We promised ourselves that we’d record every two weeks just to see how it goes. The result? The shows got better, the audience grew, and we had more fun! So much fun, in fact, that we forgot to take our regular “summer hiatus.” As if this wasn’t encouragement enough, I spoke with many of you this past weekend at Woodworking in America who expressed how much you enjoy the program and you wish it came out more often.

Well, ask and you shall receive! I spoke with the guys and we all agreed to start doing the show weekly. So from now on, we’ll record every Wednesday afternoon! Of course, life happens and there may be weeks when we need to shuffle things around a bit, but for the most part, you can expect the show to arrive on a weekly basis.

You can catch up on past episodes at WoodTalkShow.com or you can subscribe in iTunes or to the regular RSS feed.

I am looking forward to the weekly WTOR show! Helps feed my woodworking diet – I was getting a little thin around the middle.

Marc, Google Calendar will translate the time to the user’s locale if they hit the “+ Google Calendar” button on the bottom of the TWW calendar and add the events to their own calendar. If a user just looks at your published calendar, the events show up in the time zone you have configured for the TWW Google account.

For example, when I look at the TWW calendar page, I see Woodtalk at 3pm with a note at the bottom of the calendar indicating that times are in Arizona Mountain Time. However if I look at my own calendar, I see that Woodtalk is at 6pm, which is correct in EDT (Eastern Daylight). Next month, Google will automatically display Woodtalk at 5pm on my calendar because I will have transitioned to EST (Eastern Standard).

Excellent! I really appreciate the explanation Ben. So can you test one more thing for me? Look at the widget on our home page that gives the schedule of events. It’s on the right side near the footer. Does that display in your local time or is it still pulling in the calendar’s default time?

On the home page under ‘Coming up’ it indicates 3pm MT. But if I go into the full calendar it shows 6PM (which would be local time for me).

I am looking forward to more episodes, although it’s awful tough for me to join live.

Cool…big fan of the show, which keeps getting better, more entertaining while still informative!

One request…bring back the old intro with the British gal, I miss her!

    Hi Marc,

I see 3pm and I’m in the Eastern!

    •

well poop. I guess I’ll have to state the time explicitly in the title. In fact, I’ll try to post the time in the Eastern time zone and see if Google does a better job of translating the times for each individual. In fact, I just did that and the time does display correctly for me.

        Hi Marc,

Now I see 15:00 but there is a note at the bottom of the calendar which mentions the timezone of the calendar being Arizona – Rockies

    Hi guys
Can’t get in the shop for a while, the Dr gave me some goooood drugs io help with a knee problem. Hearing that I can enjoy your banter weekly is even better medication. Thanks

  7. More audio goodness to get me through the work week. You guys rock!

    This is just awesome!
I listened to episode 1 to about 50 (when I cottoned onto the podcast) back to back, then had severe withdrawls when I had to wait what seemed like an eternity between episodes. Living in a country area ive always felt isolated as a woodworker, and the episodes felt like sitting in the shed (shop for you northern hemisphere woodworkers) with friends.
Now I can sit in the shed weekly!!!!! Just puts a beaming smile on my face :-D
Thanks Marc, Matt and Shannon from ‘Down Under’.

WOW, this will be some fun, knowledge and good old chit chat every week..ps can you standadise on time zone please :), there was a bit of confusion on the time of the last WTOR

    •

What do you consider standardized? The Google calendar and the widget on our site should give you the show time in your local time zone.

      • Mark Bridgewater October 20, 2012

Hi Marc, for some reason this week it was an hour out, there were a few of us on the forum an hour early., WTOR was advertised at 3:00 MT , im asuming MT was mountain time, i use my Gadets on windows pc which has times around the world.

  10. Richard October 19, 2012

This is the best news i’ve seen all week!!!!

  11. Awesome!!! But what is it with Wed? so many woodworking podcasts/chats to dig through on Wed now…

  12. Jerry S October 19, 2012

SWEET! It’s like Christmas in October!

(Already saw a “Toyland” comercial last night…I was not ready for that. No kidding, they will be open before Halloween even.)

Looking forward to the new WoodTalk schedule. Thank you!
