The winner is Andy LaPorte! Congratulations dude!
September’s giveaway is pretty sharp! A 6-piece chisel set from Two Cherries is up for grabs! The set comes in a wooden box and includes 6mm, 10m, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, and 26mm chisels. Remember, all you need to do to enter the giveaway is leave comments on our site. Yep, we reward people for participating in the discussions. As always, “drive-by” and “throw-away” comments don’t count. That means comments like, “I’m in!” or “Consider me entered!” will never actually win. The winner will be selected at random from the meaningful comments left on the site (on any post) during the month of September.
Two Cherries is a family-owned company that has been making some of the highest quality tools at their factory in Remscheid Germany since 1858. Two Cherries offers an extensive range of woodworking and woodcarving tools that are solid forged and heat treated to acheive a Rockwell rating of 61, which although requires a bit more time sharpening, will hold an edge much longer than most other tools on the market.

Congrats to the winner, Andy. This was an awesome prize. Love the videos and website Marc. Keep up the good work.
I’m just starting to take my woodworking seriously and love the discussions and projects on this site. I am using half of my 2 car garage in south Florida and am setting up mobile work stations. As soon as I finish the built in utility room shelf system for the Mrs. I intend to build rolling carts for my miter saw, my jointer and the planer. My desire is to build specialty furniture pieces and can’t decide if my next big tool should be the band saw or router table? Anyway, great site!
I have done various projects over the years and up until recently I never really used chisels, now I found that they are very important for any woodworking project. I have never used this brand but they sure look like great tools. Great Giveaway.
Marc,
Thanks for the opportunity to win these chisels. Ive followed your pod cast right from the very first one and much of my shop is the way it is because of your knowledge on what is good and necessary and what isn’t. In fact as my shop comes together my motivation in how it looks is your present shop. I always tell myself that Marc’s shop wont have anything on me – if you see value in having it, I have it. These chisels would be a welcomed addition to a shop that is a top flight shop -just as your shop is your pride and joy as well.
I love videos like that. Reminds me of “How its made.”
Marc,
thank you for giving us the opportunity to win the chisel set. Moreover, thank you for giving us the opportunity to see new products. Your passion for what you are doing is infectious. I have tried signing up for wood working classes and have tried new tools since I watched the first video several months ago through a You-tube hit on setting up the table saw. Great website! You have a fan from Maine.
It’s the last day of September – when do you announce that I won? :^)
I never win anything… I just bought a set of 5 PM-V11 Bench Chisels from Lee Valley – let me know soon so I can cancel my order! (hehe)
my dilemma should i win these beautiful tools would be whether to use them or just ooh and ahh over them, and make my friends jealous.
My day job is in manufacturing and I am always drawn to manufacturing process. I wish I would have had a chance to visit this page earlier. The video of their manufacting process is very exciting for me. To me, that does way more to convince me of the quality of the chisels than any review written. Count me in for wanting some Two Cherries Chisels!
Hope I still have time to enter!
One of your recent rebroadcasts was about sharpening. During the Roubo workbench project I bought some mortising chisels. They were great during the project and I’m really enjoying working with them. So far, all I’ve done is initial clean up and some honing on leather. My question is: what’s the best method for resharpening them? I have a Jet water stone system, DMT diamond plates and water stones. Should I sharpen the bevel of the mortising chisel on the Jet water stone wheel OR try to keep it flat and just use the flat water stone?
Thanks for the help.
Do you have any podcasts showing a “best” method for sharpening card scrappers? I’ve seen some but my results are very inconsistent.
At the very least this contest is going to ease my pain for the rest of the week. I’ve recently taken up woodworking — my most recently completed project was the “Rack My Brain” wood storage which was perfect for a strangely shaped area in my basement. In any case I have come to understand that I need some quality hand tools. I’ve brought a couple pre-war Stanley planes back to life, but have been scouring the web lately trying to decide on chisels. While I’ve been all over the map about it, Lie Nielsen and Two Cherry have been the brands that stay at the top of the list. Next year I hope to take a Joinery course and it would sure be more affordable if I already had a set of chisels!
Thank you for the site — I’m enjoying
This past weekend I went to the Lie Nielsen Handtool Event in Oakland, CA. This was my fallback plan for not being able to attend WIA. At the event I had the privilege of meeting Robert Larson whom is the US importer of Two Cherries. I Learned some cool facts about the company and product line. I was surprised by a couple of things.
1. They make over 1000 variations of carving tools
2. They keep 1000 variations in stock. So you can order at a moments notice and not wait 4-6-8 weeks for the tools to be made. There is still about 2 weeks to ship but that seems a little more acceptable.
3. The cutting steel looks nice. They almost look chrome plated but are just polished carbon steel.
My go to chisels are Lie Nielsen (1/8 – 3/4). However, I have been in the market for a larger (1-1/2 ~ 1-3/4) chisel for paring. I am seriously considering the two cherries brand. If I recall correctly their 45mm was $74 and the 40mm was $62.
Thanks for y’alls wonderful instruction. I am just gettin started in woodworkin and I enjoy your instruction!!
I wish they had captions at the bottom of the video for some of the forging and forming steps… I was particularly curious what was happening around the 0:26 to 0:30 mark. Does anyone know?
That part shows how they bend what will become the handles of a chairmakers drawknife.
Really interesting video. I have just started a cabinet making course and the initial modules are on hand tools. I consider myself competent with power tools but have always wondered what could be done with hand tools. This week, we are learning the ins and outs of hand planes. It is really a Zen experience. Next up will be hand chisels and doing dovetails. I am going to investigate this brand as I prefer to buy tools from North American and European manufacturers rather than inferior versions imported from China. Thanks for sharing the video on this company.
I purchased a set of stanley chisels that were razor sharp f/ the facotry. I use them for everything f/ paring to removeing glue squeeze out. I didn’t know haow to sharpen them as they were gettting dull. I found your podcast of how to sharpen them. I really appreciated it. I purchsed all the stones & guide that you recommended. I’ve yet to sharpen them but at least I’m ready to do so now. Thanks for the great info on your site.
Watching the percision made chisel was over welming, such high quality
Great site Mark. I enjoy how you keep your videos fresh and interesting. I look forward to seeing your new shop and the new resulting videos.
It is good to see the process of how the chisels are made. Not as good as the videos on this sight.
Marc,
You have a great aproach where you tell how to do things or what to use as you are making progress through the project. Great job! Maybe you could have someone from Two Cherries explain how their chisel help with great woodworking.
Just watched the video on the Two Cherries Chisels. Amazing process for their production. I’m pretty impressed with their quality and finish. Could be a possibility to replace my Marples. Also watched the video of the Festool Router table. The thing that impressed me most was the awesome dust collection. A little pricey for me so I’ll just have keep cleaning up around my table with my shop-vac. Thanks for the informative videos and keep ‘em coming. Can’t wait to see the new shop.
Mark,
Thanks for including the video showing the way the chisels are made. I enjoy seeing the steps that go into making tools.
I have learned that if you want good work you need good chisels mine are not as good as these.
Mark,
I’ve been a fan of yours since seeing your video on the end grain cutting board. Iv’e made several since then. they are always well received. Your video presentations are awesome and Iv’e learned a lot from watching. I always look forward to the next one. Now that I have a dedicated shop, I just need to find the time to use it more. The passion is definately there and than ks to guys like you it makes the learning mosre fun. Thank you.
Have a few of these and love them, stay sharp and enjoy working with them!
Mark, I watched both the chisel video and the Festool MST video…. both very informative as usual. I am going to very interested in the comparison of the MST and the Jessem table. I have the latter and love it. The sliding mitre sled works really well, and the dust collector is very good just not as pristine as the MST.
The difference between a good heavy sharp chisel one that nicely slices and pears the wood and a cheap one that never holds an edge and crushes the wood is the extra hour of hand sanding.
Mark,
Many thanks for educating us non-educated woodworkers. Especially appreciate your videos. I certainly could use a good set of chisels.
Mark,
Just watched the chisel video. What an honor it would be to own a set of “good’ chisels for a change.
Marc, I really enjoy your videos and the Guild Builds. You have detail in your and show the process behind just attacking a finished cut piece to the project. These details make the difference. Plus your not afraid to let us know that mistakes happen! Thank you for all the great videos and great shop builds. I’m still in my first year as a Guild member, and can’t wait to build many of the past projects.
These give aways are also an excellent idea. Plus are a good way to introduce some of us to these products. In my town we do not have a wood working store.
Thank you for all your time and energy.
Marc, I’ve been a fan of your video clips (pod casts) on Blip.tv and YouTube for some time now. I really enjoy your presentations. I find them to be inspirational and of course great learning tools. I am new to your web site but I find it to be the same high quality that I am used to seeing in your videos. The giveaway is great too and naturally Two Cherries’ high quality fits right in. Thanks for your great work.
